Time for a quickie? Space shuttle astronauts in 1996 explored sexual positions in Zero-G.
Astronauts are experimenting with sexual positions in space, this report (link and excerpt, below) suggests.
US and Russian astronauts have had sex in space for separate research programmes on how human beings might survive years in orbit, according to a book published yesterday. |
Pierre Kohler, a respected French scientific writer, says in The Final Mission: Mir, The Human Adventure that the subject is taboo both at Nasa and at mission control in Moscow, but that cosmic couplings have taken place. |
“The issue of sex in space is a serious one,” he says. “The experiments carried out so far relate to missions planned for married couples on the future International Space Station, the successor to Mir. Scientists need to know how far sexual relations are possible without gravity.” |
He cites a confidential Nasa report on a space shuttle mission in 1996. A project codenamed STS-XX was to explore sexual positions possible in a weightless atmosphere. |
four positions were found possible without “mechanical assistance” |
six needed a special elastic belt and inflatable tunnel, like an open-ended sleeping bag |

Two questions:Where does all the sperm and vaginal lubricants go?Without protection, for proper intercourse and reproductive purposes, what are the chances of the sperm entering the vagina and fertilizing the egg?
Something I doubt the “Kama Sutra” could have never envisioned.

You’re right, you’re right!
I really do want to try to have sex in Zero-G, I think it would be really fun^^
Is it just me, or is anyone else extremely curious about the nature of the astronauts’ relationship before the experiment?
Did they just happen to have two astronauts who were a couple? Or did they call John and Mary into the Mission Planning Room one day and say,
“So, guys. We know there’s been some romantic tension between you two during training in the past few months, and we’ve got a special secret mission we want you to try out. You know, for your country.”
Really, if the sperm enters the vagina, it won’t nourish the eggs and crreat babies because of Zero-G :/
I think it was more like - “Hey - a job’s a job.” Kind of like porn stars.
I volunteer to try it with Jessica Simpson! And think…our next human rated vehicle is a SMALL capsule! WHOOOOO-HOOOO! We can sort of wedge ourselves between seats….you figure it out.
“Without mechanical assistance”? What the hell? You have the whole research budget of NASA at your disposal and you explore sexual positions withOUT mechanical assistance? What a letdown…so to speak.
As soon as “Sex” is mentioned in the headline, the comments keep popping up, a magnitude more than what is the case with the more serious topics.
Seriously people, as soon as you’re horny enough you WILL find a way to fuck in space. No need to get diverted by this über-secret, now “declassified” stuff.
The question remains, why is this being done, and, another poster mentioned it already, how are the couples matched. Reminds me of the breeding programme right out of “Moonraker”…
Please enlighten me!
I’m not familiar with the picture, at the top of this page. Where is it from? Cinema? TV?
The setup suggests late 60’s or early 70’s North-american.
no clue? anyone? plucked it off a sex site
Some retro-series, in Germany it was called UFO. This picture is from the moon base they had in there.
